Under patronage of the President of Charmo University, Professor Dr. Salah Raza Saeed with the leadership of Professor Dr. Shwan K. Rachid (Vice President of Scientific Affair), and Dr. Ibrahim Hamad (Course organizer and trainer), The Scientific Research Center at Charmo University has conducted its second Scientific Training Course on “Bioinformatics and Meta-genomics” started from 20-26th February 2017.

This training Course included introductory course to familiarize the participants with the linux operating system to manage, share, analyze and interpret metagenomics data, as well as providing hands-on training on the latest analytical approaches in the field of Microbial Ecology.

Within the course, several bioinformatics pipelines that allow easy and automated analysis of Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) data from ribosomal RNA and other genetic markers were introduced. The training course also provided the participants with an understanding of relevant concepts such as designing PCR primer/probes, homologous sequence searching tools, multiple sequence alignments in addition to practical phylogenetic tools they can apply in their own research.

Furthermore, cutting edge technologies and methodologies that are used in the field of Metagenomics were discussed. The course was an excellent opportunity for those who are interested in this field of science.  The Charmo University staff lecturers, researchers, and PhD students have participated in this workshop. Upon the end of the training Course, certificates have been awarded to the participants confirming their attendance.
