The representatives of Bell Foundation and British Council have visited Charmo University on 15th and 16th February 2016. They discussed the possibility to provide the University a concentrated 2-week consultancy on all aspects of running a university foundation course, and advising the University on course constraints. At the first day of their visit they met with the University council members and the staff of English Department to establish a plan for implementing an English foundation year at Charmo University. On the next day, they met with a group of the University students so as to analyze the students detailed needs for potential University Foundation Programme using questionnaires, interviews as well as reference documentation.
This Foundation Programme would prepare students for study at undergraduate level on courses taught in English and develop their language and study skills and their subject knowledge as part of an integrated programme of study. The Foundation is aimed to prepare students for the discipline and culture of academic life, provide objective validated assessment of students’ progress and ability, and guide students in their choice of course and destination in higher education. In addition to providing training courses for the English language teachers, the foundation will identify appropriate learning and teaching materials, and designing a scheme of assessment.
